There was a very productive meeting on Tuesday 7 August of the Working Group set up to progress Sir Lewis Ritchie’s recommendations on providing improved out of hours urgent care from Portree Hospital. The group, made up of NHS Clinicians and Managers, community representatives, Scottish Ambulance service and the Portree GP practice reviewed a range of possible options and reached consensus on an approach based on elements of these. A more detailed proposal is being prepared for discussion later this month.
The group heard that services are already in place to provide urgent care from Portree on a 24/7 basis, although at present this relies on staff being on call between midnight and 8.00 am. Work is being done to improve public knowledge of this service and how to access it.
